Join Day on the Hill March 27

Registration is now open for Council 5’s Day on the Hill March 27. Last year, a record 1,500 AFSCME members ignited a push that saved 5,000 jobs; stopped $1.5 billion more in budget cuts; and defeated attacks on our pay, pensions and health care.

We expect the same attacks this year – plus a new one that threatens our very existence as a union. A proposed “right to work for less” amendment to the state constitution could cripple our union and hurt every middle-class family in Minnesota. It’s the same kind of anti-worker bill we’ve seen in Wisconsin, Ohio and elsewhere.

To fight back, we again need a huge turnout on March 27. Details and registration are available online

Starting in July, all E-Board meetings will be held the last Wednesday of the month at 5:00pm at the Moose Lake office These will take the place of all of the other E-Board meetings currently held before the membership meetings. Any questions please let me know.

Thanks, Jason Montgomery

January 26th is Governor Dayton's Birthday, let's light up the phone and wish him a happy birthday from your hard working state employees

Call the Governor Dayton’s office at:

 (651) 201-3400 (metro area)

1-800-657-3717 (toll-free)

Message:  “Happy Birthday from a hard-working state employee”.  Be sure to leave your name and job title.

In 2010-2011 we've lost 1,006 AFSCME employees
1.3 billion dollar defecit projected in 2014, having the wealthy pay their fair share in taxes would have raised 1.4 billion
if state workers are reduced by 15% that would be 5,000 workers
Right to work for less laws would mean $5,000 less
THE AVERAGE STATE EMPLOYEE MAKES $38,000 A YEAR, WITH ALL THE CUTS AND TAXES, EARNINGS WOULD BE CUT DOWN TO $13,645!
DAY ON THE HILL IS MARCH 27TH WE NEED TO FILL THE ROTUNDA AT THE CAPITOL!
OUR WEEK AT THE CAPITOL IS APRIL 23-27TH WE NEED PEOPLE TO GO AND TALK TO REPRESENATIVES!

Just an fyi on the audio, Barb Holmes is the Master negotiator for the state.  Please listen to the audio and look at the paperwork to see what we're up against.
